Rockdirect Buys Bus, Fills It With New Laptops

Bring the LAN party to your door.

Another interested curio was the 3.1Kg widescreen Pegasus 650 (left). This mid-range fella takes a unique approach to gaming and battery life. Basically it is fitted with both Intel integrated graphics AND an ATI 128MB X700. The idea is when working in Windows you don’t need the extra grunt of the X700 or its additional drain on the battery so it can be switched off. Yet if you fancy a blast of Fry Cry/Doom 3/HL2 just shut down, flick a switch on the front, reboot and Voila: change over. This setting also has the added bonus of automatically overclocking the CPU by five per cent.

The 650 is available with either Pentium M 745 or 755 processors and 512MB or 1GB of RAM. Picking the lower options means the machine comes in well under £1,000 (£938), choosing the others puts it over (£1,056).

Lastly, we had the revised Extreme Ti (right). This beast of a gaming laptop (5.5Kg) now features the brutal PCI Express based 256MB ATI X800 XT Platinum Edition graphics chip, and the latest Intel P4 570 3.8GHz processor. It will come with a stonking 1680 x 1050 widescreen resolution in an X-Glass finish, but the one on show was pre-production and it had a lower res, standard matt panel.

Suitably for a machine that also carries a three year warranty, the top spec will set you back £2,231 including VAT, but lower specs can reduce the cost all the way down to £1408 all in.

Final words have me coming back to the bus. Nutty concept (you’d never believe I actually walked straight past it when searching for More2’s offices?!) and yet undeniably striking. It does concern me, however, that the vehicle doesn’t have a name and I think we should try and blackmail rockdirect into running a competition for the best suggestion? I figure “Bernard” is quite nice, but I’m sure you can do better…
