Rise of the Tomb Raider director has left Crystal Dynamics for Infinity Ward

Rise of the Tomb Raider director Brian Horton has left Crystal Dynamics to become an art director at Infinity Ward.

The developer’s departure was announced publicly on the official Tomb Raider Tumblr over the weekend.

Horton will be pursuing  a ‘new adventure’ as an art director at Infinity Ward, who is working on an unannounced project.

“It’s been a huge honor to be a part of the Tomb Raider franchise and the team at Crystal Dynamics,” shared Horton. “I’ve met fans from all over the world, both in person and online, to share in our love for the franchise and Lara Croft.

“After working on two amazing games, my family and I have decided to return to Southern California and start a new adventure. As sad as I am to leave the team at Crystal, I’m excited to play their future games as a fan. Thanks again for the years of support and feedback and I hope to stay in touch with you all online.”

Horton joined Crystal Dynamics back in 2009, having acted as a game director for Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and last year’s Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Crystal Dynamics is likely working on a sequel to last year’s game, which will be the first game in the new trilogy without Horton’s involvement.

Time will tell whether his absence will make a difference, but we wish him well at Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward.

After launching as a temporary Xbox One exclusive, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be coming to PC on January 29.

Unfortunately for PS4 owners, they won’t be able to play the game until Winter 2016, which is a little sucky.
