It has been a slow but meticulous build up since BlackBerry first announced application storefront in October. By January RIM was accepting submissions and earlier this month the progressive Canadians wisely changed the name to the more consumer friendly name of App World. Now it’s here…
While the 1 April release date doesn’t inspire the greatest confidence App World has indeed been launched to users in the US, UK and Canada with additional launches to follow soon. More than 1,000 applications are expected to be posted by partners such as MTV networks and Lonely Planet this week while other notable highlights include the New York Times, Facebook, Shazam and numerous leisure software such as Brain Challenge 2 and Slacker Personal Radio. The wonderful Pandora also features but sadly remains unavailable in the UK.
Apps can be attained over both WiFi and cellular networks with users getting started by visiting www.blackberry.com/appworld from their handset and downloading the client.

Restrictions? Well you’ll need to be running BlackBerry device software 4.2 or higher with both trackball and the touchscreen based Storm compatible.
