Respawn “doesn’t know” if we’ll see Titanfall 3

Respawn Entertainment has no idea whether it will make a sequel to Titanfall 2, despite EA’s commitment to the franchise.

Titanfall 2 launched last month to overwhelmingly positive reviews yet disappointing sales on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The kinetic sequel failed to match the launch sales of its predecessor, even though it came to multiple platforms this time around. However, it also released right in the middle of Battlefield 1 and Infinite Warfare dominating the charts.

Many fans, ourselves included, have been a bit worried about the franchise’s potential longevity, and now Respawn CEO Vince Zampella has given his opinion on the matter.

Speaking in a recent interview with Glixel, Zampella said he is unsure about the potential for Titanfall 3.

“We don’t know yet,” Zampella said. “[Titanfall 2] is, critically, a huge success. We’re really happy with all the reviews and the positive sentiment. Sales, it’s too early to tell.

“We’d definitely like to tell more of the story and the universe. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that we’ll explore more of it. EA might have announced more.”

At this point during the interview a publicist stepped in to reiterate that EA is “committed to the franchise.”

“So, whatever the f*** that means,” Zampella responded.

We adored Titanfall 2, scoring it 9/10 in our review, praising its wonderful campaign and pulse-pounding multiplayer action:

“Titanfall 2’s campaign is one of the best surprises of the autumn 2016 season; smart, superbly-paced and packed with action, it tramples over the likes of Halo 5 and Killzone: Shadow Fall, making this the new sci-fi shooter for CoD: Infinite Warfare to beat. And while it’s the speed and action that sucks you in, you’ll remember it for its invention and unexpected heart.”
