Report: Samsung to retain S6 design for Galaxy S7

As rumours run rampant suggesting Apple may be bold enough to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7, over at Samsung things are looking a little less drastic on the design front.

According to a report form the Korea Times (via SlashGear), Samsung plans to make very few aesthetic changes to the Galaxy S7, when it launches early next year.

Its inside sources say the Galaxy S6 design will be mostly retained as the firm seeks to perfect last year’s update with improved processors and ‘picture quality.’

So, just like the S4 and the S5 were very similar in design, so will be the S6 and the S7, the sources say.

The source said: “As the S6 and S6 Edge represented progress, the S7 will have improvements both in picture quality, performance and other some new features, but because smartphones have already been commoditised, you don’t need to spend more on a surface overhaul.”

It seems as if Samsung has adopted a similar strategy to Apple with its off-year releases. During Apple’s “S” years, it adds to the phone’s feature set and boosts the processors and cameras.

The tradition has led to debate among users over which is the better 2-year update cycle to be on.

Some prefer to jump on with the new designs such as the iPhone 6, while others prefer to wait a year in order to own the more refined device like the iPhone 6S.

It looks like Samsung owners could now be making the same choice when the S7 is revealed, likely at MWC 2015.
