Report: Samsung to reinvent the notification LED with ‘Smart Glow’

With smartphones reaching somewhat of a peak, manufacturers are struggling to innovate in any meaningful way.
Which might explain a new report, which claims Samsung is preparing an alternative to the notification LED that alerts you when you have missed calls or messages.
As SamMobile reports, the company is expected to introduce ‘Smart Glow’ – an illuminated ring around the rear camera lens which lights up in different ways for different notifications.
According to the report, the new feature will allow users to set up priority alerts for incoming messages and calls, usage alerts, battery status, and more.

And it’s not just about notifications. The illuminated ring will also take rear-camera selfies to the next level.
Smart Glow reportedly comes with a ‘selfie assist’ feature which recognises user’s faces when the rear camera is used for a selfie.
Once a face is detected, the ring will light up blue and, after two seconds, will take the photo automatically.
There’s been no word from Samsung to confirm the report, and at this point it remains unclear when and if we’ll see the new feature arrive.
Smart Glow could appear on the upcoming Galaxy J2, set to be released in India, but whether we’ll see it on future Galaxy S models remains to be seen.
