Report: iPhone SE is your name for the new 4-inch handset

Apple’s new 4-inch handset will be named the iPhone SE, according to a new report on Friday.

Until now, the name was thought to be iPhone 5SE, but Apple is dropping the number, according to 9to5Mac sources.

Whether this was the plan all along, or Apple has had a recent change of heart remains to be seen.

It’s possible Apple has decided an association with the 5 series wouldn’t sell as many handsets, given the 6 range as been around for almost 18 months now.

However, according to the report, Apple has also decided iPhone 5SE would be confusing to consumers.

Instead, it’ll just be the iPhone special edition, which certainly makes sense for a handset that combines many of the current generation features combined with the niche form factor.

The report also mentions the release will spell the end for the iPhone 5s handset, with the the newcomer available at the same price points.

The handset will be launched on March 15, and might even go on sale on March 18, judging by recent reports.

Also expected is a brand new iPad, which could be a 9.7-inch version of the iPad Pro, rather than an iPad Air 3. Also expected are new Apple Watch bands.
