Reigns: Game of Thrones should be a match made in heaven. On one side you’ve got Reigns, one of the most inventive mobile games of recent years, where you play as a king or queen and choose your own adventure as you swipe through a detailed branching narrative experience. On the other you’ve got Game of Thrones, which… well you know.
Hence, Reigns: Game of Thrones feels like a perfect fit. You play as a combination of Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister and Sansa Stark, as you attempt to rule your kingdom and avoid facing your own GoT-style twist death.

Decisions are made by swiping left or right on a series of Tinder-style cards, which will be familiar to anyone who’s played one of Nerial’s previous Reigns games.
Although the game is officially licensed by HBO, it seems like it will play fairly fast and loose with the actual events of the show, allowing you to explore an alternative universe in which, for example, Sansa Stark marries Jaime Lannister.
There’ll also be mini games to play, involving activities such as jousting and tavern brawls, and the whole experience is played to the show’s iconic soundtrack.

Reigns: Game of Thrones: A perfect fit?
We’re already big fans of the Reigns series. Its combination of excellent writing and genuinely meaningful plot decisions make for a game that feels much more in-depth than its simple swipe-left/swipe-right gameplay would initially suggest.
Adding the license for a series like Game of Thrones feels like a great move, but it’s not without its challenges.

We’ve got our fingers crossed that the two franchises will be able to come together in a way that preserves the elements that we like about both.
Reigns: Game of Thrones will be available from Apple’s App Store, Google Play and Steam from October 2018 for £2.99.
