The Madrid rivals have had extremely different summers so far. Real have lost possibly their greatest ever player in Ronaldo, as well as club-legend Zinedine Zidane, who led them to a remarkable three Champions League titles in three years. They’ve picked up Vinicius Junior, of whom big things are expected and strengthened at the back with the purchase of Thibaut Courtois, but they’re yet to replace Ronaldo, and doubts remain over current main man Gareth Bale’s capacity to stay fit.
Los Rojiblancos, meanwhile, managed to hold onto key men Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann and Jan Oblak, as well as manager Diego Simeone, who was also in demand. They also managed to pick up Thomas Lemar and Nikola Kalinic, who will bolster an already teeming forward line.
A win tonight will give Real Madrid and new manager Julen Lopetegui a big confidence boost ahead of the start of the La Liga season this weekend, but a defeat could spark panic and, as all football followers know, Real’s supporters aren’t the most patient bunch.
Tonight’s Madrid derby takes place at the 15,000-seater A. Le Coq Arena in Tallinn, Estonia. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm BST. Watching the big game couldn’t be easier – as long as you’ve got the right TV package.
