Touch-screen fitting rooms are now a thing

From phones to homes, everything seems to be getting smarter these days.

Now, San Francisco-based startup Oak Labs is bringing the humble fitting room into the ‘smart’ age.

Having secured a partnership with Polo Ralph Lauren, the company will be introducing its new smart fitting room in the clothing giant’s store on New York’s 5th Avenue.

The interactive rooms will feature mirrors fitted with an RFID (radio frequency identification) antenna and a touch display.

The antenna will pick up tags on the clothes customers are wearing and display images of them on the mirror’s screen.

From here, customers can choose different sizes and colours which will then be brought to them by members of staff.

They will also be given style recommendations and the screens reportedly support several languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and Portuguese.

The touch-screen also allows customers to adjust the lighting in the room, to see how different outfits look in different environments.

If Oak Labs’ video is anything to go by, you’ll not only be able to see what your new outfit looks like at dusk but also at the club and, of course, the aquarium.

Ralph Lauren are no strangers to melding clothes with tech, having previously debuted a smart shirt for athletes.

Oak Labs have not announced any other partnerships, although with Ralph Lauren onboard, a successful launch in New York could see the technology introduced elsewhere.
