Queen’s Speech Available On Kindle

Amazon is trying to win over the patriotic Brits by offering a transcript of the Queen’s speech this Christmas for free on your Kindle.

The transcript will be available directly following the speech on Christmas Day and if that wasn’t enough of a present for you, from today, Kindle readers are able to download all 59 of Her Majesty’s previous Christmas Messages – an annual tradition started on Christmas Day in 1952, the year of the Queen’s accession – for free in Amazon.co.uk’s Kindle Store.

“Millions of people across the UK, and the world, wait with anticipation to hear The Queen’s Christmas Broadcast and we’re delighted to be able to make transcripts of Her Majesty’s annual addresses, past and present, available to download for free in less than 60 seconds” said Gordon Willoughby, Director, Kindle EU. “Many people will be unwrapping Kindles on Christmas Day and now Kindle readers, new and old, will be able to read The Queen’s words for years to come.”

While reading the speech won’t be the same as listening to the speech itself, you could always turn on the text-to-speech function of your Kindle and listen to the speech as if spoken by a robot. We can think of no better way to spend a Christmas evening.

Of course this feature will only be available to those who own the Kindle 3, as the feature has been disabled in the newer models.
