Quantum Break gameplay trailer shows off Xbox One exclusive

The first Quantum Break gameplay trailer has been released as part of VGX over the weekend, shedding more light on the Xbox One exclusive.

Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy, explains that the gameplay trailer will reveal more about “the crazy exciting world of Quantum Break”.

“This is a revolutionary entertainment experience that combines a cinematic action game and a high-quality live action show”, said Lake.

First, Lake gives us some insight on the Quantum Break storyline, saying a time travel related science experiment goes horribly wrong “and breaks time”.

This causes time anomalies where time freezes and skips forward or backwards at random. The heroes, Jack Joyce and Beth Wilder are both present during the experiment and gain the power to manipulate time.

You’ll be able to play as Jack and Beth during the action game, which features cinematic gunplay and dynamic cover functionality.

“In Quantum Break time breaks down turning impassable, split-second moments of death and destruction into epic stages and battlegrounds of time-powered action. These unstable, stutter scenes where time freezes and skips are unique, amazing environments for action and adventure.”

A mastery of time powers will be required to defeat the main enemy, Monarch Industries.

Lake states Quantum Break is a “dream come true” for Remedy in terms of technical ability.

“We’ve taken everything we have learnt about interactive storytelling from Alan Wake and stylised cinematic action from Max Payne. We’ve raised the bar much higher and brought these elements together into one game creating the ultimate Remedy experience.”

Lake fails to explain how the live action elements will affect Quantum Break gameplay in the VGX trailer, so it still remains to be seen how the two halves of the game will interact.

There is still no release date for Quantum Break as yet, but we expect it will launch sometime late next year.
