Pure has officially lifted the curtain on the Pure Contour 200i. It’s an AirPlay dock that also offers a front 30-pin Apple connector that can hold iPads, iPhones and iPods alike. It costs £199.99 and is available in 3… 2… now.
A slightly different take on the dock design of the Pure Contour 100Di, the Pure Contour 200i is one of the only products from the DAB king not to feature a DAB tuner at all. Instead, this dock is all about streaming. It features AirPlay, but will also take non-connected Apple devices thanks to its standard iPod dock on the front. Unlike the Pure Contour 100Di, this doesn’t retract into the body, but isn’t visible front-on.
Pure has done its best to make sync’ing wirelessly as easy as possible, and it’s another reason for the front dock socket to be there. Jam your iPad or iPhone in the dock while it’s connected to your home network, tap the Wi-Fi Setup button on the Pure Contour 200i’s back, and simply press the on-screen pop-up to share Wi-Fi with the dock. It’s one of the simplest integrations of AirPlay we’ve seen to date.
The Pure Contour 200i uses a pair of 3.5in full-range drivers and offers 36W RMS of power. If you’d rather output sound to a fully-fledged Hi-Fi, there’s a coaxial digital output on the back. There’s also a 3.5mm auxiliary input and an Ethernet port – although Wi-Fi does come built-in. Software updates are transmitted to the Pure Contour 200i over Wi-Fi.
We’ll be back with a full review of the Pure Contour 200i soon.
