PS4 will only support four controllers, half of Xbox One limit
Sony has confirmed that the PS4 will feature just four controller support, half that of the Xbox One and three less than its predecessor, the PS3.
Making the announcement just hours after Microsoft confirmed that the upcoming Xbox One will host support for eight controllers simultaneously,
Posed with the question “How many controllers can be connected to the PS4?” on Twitter, Shuhei Yoshida, Head of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios replied simply “4.”
Although the gaming giant has failed to elaborate on its reasoning, the four controller PS4 limit is a dramatic step back from the local multiplayer capabilities of the current PS3.
While Sony has seemed to gain a number of advantages over the rival Xbox One in recent weeks, including undercutting its rival on price and not getting wrapped up in pre-owned gaming concerns, the confirmation that the Xbox One will allow for double the controller support marks a much needed, albeit small win for Microsoft.
The PS4 UK release date has been confirmed as November 29, two weeks after the next-gen gamer will make its global debut on US shores.
The PS4 price has been set at £349, a full £80 cheaper than the Xbox One. This reduced fee as seen PS4 pre-orders already sell out meaning launch day stock will be severely limited.
