PS4 Update 3.0 Kenshin to bring massive cloud storage increase

Sony has outlined the features coming with PS4 Update 3.0, codenamed Kenshin, including a massive cloud storage increase for PS Plus members.

The headline improvement, at least for us, is the fact the cloud storage for PS Plus members will be increased from a measly 1GB to 10GB.

We can’t tell you the amount of times we’ve seen “upload failed” on our PS4 notifications for all our game saves. It’ll be nice to not see that one for a while.

But that’s not all. As is the way with Sony, the Update 3.0 will add a host of new features to the PS4 all in one go.

Another major new feature that’s inbound is YouTube Gaming. The PS4 will be the first console to support the all-new Twitch game streaming rival.

A new events hub will arrive with the update, giving you an overview of all the activities taking place in the games you play the most, as well as any official broadcasts. That includes double XP weekends, a special enemy appearing a certain time, or even seasonal events like game towns being decorated in the winter.

You’ll also be able to create communities based around shared interests, such as games or genres. Each community will include a message board, screenshots shared by players and the ability to join parties or games.

Favourite Groups have also been added to the Friends app, which lets you add new or existing groups as Favourite Groups. This will make getting a game session started a lot quicker, as all your friends you play with regularly will be grouped together.

The update will also allow players to share video clips to Twitter. The maximum video length is 10 seconds, but you will be able to trim longer clips.

Other smaller new features include the ability to save screenshots as PNG files, the option to send a “Request to Watch” notification to a player to start a live broadcast or Share Play session and the ability to see popular items on the Live from PlayStation area.

Finally, the Now Playing screen will display more info about what your friends are doing and you’ll be able to interact with them directly from this screen. And you will be able to send stickers in messages.

There’s no release date teased for PS4 Update 3.0 Kenshin, but we’ll bring you the latest as we have it.
