PS4 Update 2.0 is “just around the corner”
Sony has teased that the big PS4 Update 2.0 containing Share Play and other new features is “just around the corner”.
PS4 Update 2.0 was announced at GamesCom back in August, but was only given a loose “later this autumn” release window.
According to Sony Community Manager Fred Dutton though, the highly anticipated firmware update is actually “just around the corner”.
“I can’t comment on new hardware features today, other than to say that [updates] are always in the workds – as previously announced there’s a big PS4 update just around the corner that we’ll be talking more about soon,” said Dutton on the PlayStation blog.
Of course, Dutton failed to give a precise release date for the major PS4 update, but hopefully his comments mean the patch is within weeks of release.
The PS4 update v2.00, as it is officially titled, will introduce the Share Play functionality to the new Sony console. Share Play is what Sony is calling a “virtual couch” experience, where you can invite a friend to play a game with you on PS4, even if they don’t actually own a copy of said game on their PS4.
Along with this rather unique multiplayer functionality, update 2.0 will also add the YouTube app to the PS4 and let gamers upload captured video footage straight to the video network.
Aparently there’s a few other new features coming to PS4 with the update too, which we hope could include Plex support for the PS4 to rival the Xbox One’s latest addition.
