PS4 System Software Update 2.0 to introduce Share Play feature

Sony has outlined some of the amazing new features arriving the PS4 System Software Update 2.0, including the new Share Play.

PS4 System Update 2 will introduce a host of new features including the ability to find your real world friends a lot easier and upload gameplay videos directly to YouTube.

However, the one that is most interesting is Share Play. This unique feature will allow any PlayStation Plus members to do two magnificent things:

1. Virtually pass the controller to your friend, wherever they are in the world.
2. Play together co-operatively or competitively together, regardless of whether your friend actually owns the game.

“The best way to think about Share Play is like a “virtual sofa”.
PlayStation 4 will create an online local co-op experience by allowing
you to invite a friend to join your game—even when they don’t own a copy
of it. With this first-of-its-kind feature, you’ll be able to play
games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room,”
explained Sony further in a blog post.

This is similar to the Keys to Karat feature being introduced to PlayStation editions of Far Cry 4, which no doubt uses the same technology.

The ability to virtually “pass your controller” could come in particularly useful when streaming your gameplay footage and you get stuck. You could ask your friend to help you out in that tricky patch, helping you get through to the next section.

PS4 Update 2.0 will arrive some time this autumn, but Sony hasn’t been willing to give us any specific dates as to when it would be released.
