PS4 release date tipped for November ahead of today’s formal unveiling

Ahead of today’s formal PS4 launch event, latest reports have suggested Sony will host the eagerly awaited PS4 release date in November, with the console to feature smartphone compatibility.

The latest in a long line of PS4 rumours that are set to culminate during this evening’s official PS4 launch event, new reports have cited “a reliable source” in suggested a November PS4 release date is on the cards, for US based gamers at least.

Update: PS4 Release Date Confirmed: Console to hit UK November 29

Far from the first insight in the long overdue PS4 release date, recent rumours claimed that whilst the console will hit Japanese and US markets later this year, a PS4 UK release date will not occur until early 2014, leaving European gamers out in the cold for a number of months. Adding to growing speculation, the reports have suggested that Sony has “two models planned for the new machine,” indicating an entry-level and premium model are in the works.

Having quoted “development sources with working knowledge of both next-generation consoles,” past PS4 rumours claimed that due to “complexities involved in European distribution,” the PS4 UK release date will miss the coveted 2013 launch window.

They added: “We’re told that PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan and the US by Christmas, with a Euro rollout following in early 2014.”

Whilst the latest PS4 rumours have failed to offering any indication on a UK arrival, they have added further backing to the console’s repeatedly mooted November arrival.

What’s more, as well as speculating on the Nintendo Wii U rival’s launch window, the latest reports, courtesy of Kotaku, have teased the potential PS4 price tag. Suggesting that “pricing won’t be announced until later this year,” the gaming sources reportedly added that when confirmed, the two PS4 models heading for launch will be priced at $429 and $529 (£279 and £345).

With a raft of recent claims suggesting that the PS4 controller will incorporate a new touchpad interface and integrate PlayStation Move capabilities, the newly surface leaked have suggested Sony is also planning to feature smartphone and tablet control options with its expected Xbox 720 competitor.

“New information revealed by our source suggests that on top of all that, you’ll also be able to control the PS4 remotely from your tablet or smartphone,” the Kotaku reports announced. “You’ll be able to use a mobile device to chat with your PS4 friends or buy games which are then automatically downloaded to your machine.”

With PS4 rumours reaching fever pitch, Sony is set to hold the PS4 launch event later today with the Japanese manufacturer descending on New York city with an 11pm GMT start time.
