PS4 limited to 400GB user available storage space
The PS4 is limited to 400GB of user available storage space, with latest reports revealing the console’s system software take up a whopping 100GB.
With the 500GB overall PS4 storage capacity having been slashed by a fifth before the console is even turned on, gamers who have received their next-gen console early have revealed that the accessible PS4 storage has been limited to 408GB.
Although this still sounds like a decent amount of storage space,
While the PS4 iteration of Call of Duty: Ghosts will take up 32GB of your PS4 storage before you even start playing, Killzone: Shadow Fall requires an even larger 39GB install. At that rate gamers will be able to install just 10 games on their Xbox One rival, and that’s not taking into account further saves, application downloads and other media additions.
While it is standard for the amount of user accessible storage on consoles or smartphones to be considerably lower than the advertised figure, the 92GB of space handed over to the PS4 firmware is higher than expected.
Earlier today Sony announced that it is already working on a software patch to address the fact the upcoming console cannot play audio CDs or MP3 files out of the box.
“As we speak, people in Japan – the system guys – are discussing when we can put these features in,” Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios stated in a recent interview.
He added: “The biggest surprise for us all internally at Sony was there are so many people who passionately reacted to our announcement that there’s no MP3 support or CD support on day one.
“It’s not like we actively decided ‘let’s not do this feature so people will have to subscribe to Music Unlimited. The focus has been more on the game features. Some of the features we wanted but we couldn’t get in on day one.”
