PS4 launch stock to fulfil demand Sony predicts

With PS4 pre-orders having already sold out, Sony has confirmed that it is manufacturing enough PS4 launch stock to fulfil all day one demand.

Looking to ensure that no wannabe PS4 owners are left disappointed, Sony has revealed that its PS4 launch stock will not be restricted only to the first in line, with the Japanese gaming giant suggesting that it hopes to meet all demand in the run up to Christmas.

“We want to make sure consumers have an opportunity to buy a PS4 on November 15 [in the US] and through the holidays, so we’re holding back some inventory to make sure people have an opportunity to come in on launch day and buy one,” Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Jack Tretton said in an interview with Fox.

Suggesting that the PlayStation brand is “at an all-time high right now,” Tretton added that Sony could “pre-sell every PS4 we can make” but insisted the company wants to ensure hardcore gamers, casual gamers and parents alike can all snap one up from store shelves as and when they wish after launch.

“We can pre-sell every unit we can manufacture, and the good news is that production yields have been phenomenal,” he said. “We’re going to work very hard to make sure that every consumer that wants one gets one.”

With PS4 pre-order figures having already eclipsed the one million unit milestone, Sony last month announced that the PS4 release date will be held on November 29 in the UK, two weeks after it hits the US.

With the Xbox One release date set for November 15, the PS4 price has been confirmed at £349, £80 cheaper than its leading, Microsoft branded rival.
