PS4 DualShock 4 Video: Head-to-head with the DualShock 3

The PS4 release date is set to be announced tomorrow, August 20, but it will be some time yet before you can get your hands on the next-gen console and its new DualShock 4 controller.

Fortunately the Xbox One rival has already touched down in the TrustedReviews offices, and to make sure you know exactly what to expect from the PS3 replacement, we have pitted the old against the new in our DualShock 4 vs DualShock 3 video comparison.

Update: PS4 Release Date Confirmed: Console to hit UK November 29

The new PS4 compatible DualShock 4 controller has been completely remodelled over Sony’s past peripherals, with the refreshed design playing host to a new touchpanel interface, share button and textured rear surface. In short the DualShock 4 is a slimmer, taller and better built than its predecessors but why not have a look for yourself in the video below.

Although not one of the bit, visible talking points, the new DualShock 4 controller adds a revised six-axis sensor alongside improved rumble pads.

With all the buttons coming in for slight modifications, the DualShock 4’s rear triggers have been made more precise and grippy, while the analogue sticks have a newly concaved head for improved controller of in-game characters and actions.

The DualShock 4 controller is one of the main ways Sony is bringing the PS4 in to the modern era of gaming. The touchpanel at the centre of the unit allows for a new realm of immersive, interactive gameplay while the ‘Share’ button brings social options to the fore with gamers able to post in-game video clips to online platforms instantly.

To see what we made of the DualShock 4 controller and see how it shapes up to the outgoing DualShock 3, take a look at the video above and stay tuned for our full PS4 review coming soon.
