PS3 Wireless Keypad Priced & Dated

Perfect stocking filler for the PS3 owner who has everything else.

Sony revealed its forthcoming Wireless Keypad add-on for the PS3 controller at the Leipzig Games convention in August, but we’ve waited until now for word on a release date. Luckily for those still stuck on Christmas gift ideas – I know I have relatives badgering me – Sony is pushing the device out for the first week of December, so there’s still time for said relatives to grab one.

Of all the accessories available for the Xbox the Messenger Kit is probably the only one I’d call a must-have, save maybe the play and charge kit. Given the PlayStation 3 has all the text-chat and messaging facilities of the Xbox and a web browser it seems crazy that Microsoft was first to the punch with a simple clip-on text entry device. Sure, I can (and do) use a keyboard with my PlayStation, but an add-on accessory is much more practical.

Let us not forget, too, that Sony’s Wireless Keypad also serves as a mouse, it’s surface being touch sensitive and doubling up as a trackpad. Anyone looking for evidence of Sony’s involvement with dark magics, look no further!

With a £25 MSRP and pre-orders are sitting at about £20, Sony’s wireless Keypad definitely has a more average consumer-friendly price than the console it is designed to accompany. I, for one, have my pre-order in already.
