PS3 Official Site Goes Live

One whole lotta flash, one tiny line about pricing.

As the most eagerly awaited, over priced and so far underwhelming of the next generation consoles the PlayStation 3 has its work cut out. Get ready for Sony’s marketing machine to go into overdrive between now and 17 November though and it all starts today with the launch of machine’s official site.

The heavily flash-based provides a few new interesting titbits of information. For a start it confirms that both the 20GB and 60GB versions of the PS3 will indeed be headed to these isles and that, storage apart, the cut down edition will lack wireless, HDMI and the flash memory card reader thus making it largely pointless.

To further emphasise the difference between the model Sony ”doesn’t” want you to buy and the one it ”does” the company has added a last minute coat of paint to the 60GBer. A silver finish has been applied to the outside edge of the console along with a lipstick-like lapping around the mouth of the Blu-ray drive. So now your shame at not being rich can be made all the more apparent.

Finally, as I mentioned on Monday, HDMI 1.3 will be featured meaning support for the higher bandwidth (10.2Gbps), increased frame rates and ‘Deep Colour’ (48bit) HD technology of the future. Now if only Sony’s target demographic earned the money of the future so they could afford it…
