PS Vita TV microconsole unveiled as Ouya rival

Sony has unveiled the PS Vita TV, a new microconsole that lets you bring portable gaming back into the home alongside multimedia streaming credentials.

Letting you play PS Vita and PSP games on your television, the PS Vita TV has been officially unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show, with gamers to be able to use the microconsole alongside a DualShock controller to turn portable titles into more traditional gaming options.

More than a simple portable for connecting PS Vita games to your TV, the PS Vita TV packs a raft of multimedia options that will see the device rival the likes of the Apple TV and Ouya services.

Letting you stream movie and TV content to your big screen, the internet connected PS Vita TV will also offer PS4 Remote Play options, letting you take your main console throughout the home with minimal fuss.

Lining up at a mere 6cm by 10cm in size, the PS Vita TV comes equipped with a HDMI port for HD playback compatibility.

The PS Vita TV release date has been set as November 14 in Sony’s native Japan with the microconsole to receive a global launch at a later, as yet undisclosed date. The PS Vita TV price has been set at 9,480 Yen (£61).

Not the only new arrival at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony has unveiled a redesigned PS Vita console, with the remodelled handheld lining up 20 per cent thinner than the original Vita and 20 per cent lighter.
