PS Vita price cut announced by Sony

A PS Vita price cut has been announced with Sony confirming during its Gamescom 2013 press conference that it will slash a third from the portable console’s cost.

Although Sony has yet to discuss UK pricing on the PS Vita price cuts, the Japanese gaming giant has revealed that in the US the PS4 companion will drop from $299 to $199 (£190 to £126). This $100 price cut marks a considerable change and will make the Nintendo 3DS rival more accessible to a wider range of consumers.

With the price cuts to be formally introduced by retailers tomorrow, August 21, Sony has revealed that the console will now cost 199 Euros on the continent.

Although it has failed to address the console’s revised UK pricing, this 199 Euro price point equates to £170. At present, the Vita can be snapped up from a range of UK retailers for as little as £169, suggesting the UK’s pricing might not be set to go any lower.

We have contacted Sony directly to confirm the new PS Vita UK pricing and will update this post accordingly as soon as we hear.

As well as announcing reductions to the console’s price, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment stated that the company “will also make significant reductions to the PS Vita memory cards.”

Using its Gamescom conference to discuss Vita, PS3 and PS4 plans, Sony announced that the PS Vita is set to receive a number of new exclusive and Indie games in the run up to the festive period and into early 2014.
