PopCap moving out of casual games into AAA titles?

Casual game developer PopCap is to release its first AAA gaming title, a recent job advertisement has suggested.

The ad, turned up by Joystiq acting on a tip from a Twitter user, calls for a software engineer “to build a AAA console title”.

The successful applicant will work across a number of areas of the game including animation and audio, and the ad suggests that experience in working with EA’s Frostbite 2 engine (the engine used for AAA titles Battlefield 3 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter) is a likely requirement.

Experience developing for the Xbox 360 and PS3, with at least “one major title” shipped is also called for, a suggestion that the game could be a full-on 3D stunner – some distance away from PopCap’s normal casual game fare.

Far from a development powerhouse, PopCap is best known for the likes of Bejewelled, Peggle and Plants vs. Zombies: all great games but hardly what could be described as AAA titles. The ad however does state that the game will feature “PopCap’s signature humor and charm”.
