Get your 18x DVD write on...
If Plextor ever decided to lose its conservative reputation I would like to think the tagline on its products would be “Burn Baby, Burn!” Sadly, that’s never likely to happen so it’s a good thing it keeps making up for it by producing fantastic quality DVD writers.
The PX-760 maintains the company’s glowing tradition by breaking new ground with its 18x burning on DVD+/-R disc (yes, this is certified on 16x media). Dual layer DVD+R discs also get produced in record time, writing at 10x and even a dual layer DVD-R can be churned out at 6x. DVD-RW, DVD-VR and CD-R/W media are all also supported.
Interestingly, Plextor has decided to release an external USB edition of the PX-760, dubbed the PX-760UF, which claims to match its E-IDE sibling in every department. Both drives use the company’s PowerRec technology which adjusts the laser intensity in real time during the burn process to correct impurities in the discs. For you SATA fans out there, a PX-760 to sate your collective appetites will appear later in the year.
The rest of us can snaffle up the other two versions in April. The PX-760 will retail for $119, though the PX-760UF has yet to be priced. Plextools comes in the box as usual with Plextor opting to bundle Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 instead of Nero. I respect the company’s decision here, but it got that part wrong. Nero is much better.
