PlayStation Home Launches 11th Dec

Save the date, folks!

It’s been a long, long time coming, but tomorrow PS3 owners worldwide will finally see the launch of PlayStation Home to all users. Sony has a lot of promise to live up to, especially from those of us that have been waiting since the début of the console itself to ‘play’ Home, so here’s hoping none of us are disappointed.

According to SCE President and Group CEO, Kazuo Hirai, “PlayStation Home is truly a promising network community service on the PlayStation platform, made possible with the powerful combination of PS3’s overwhelming computational power and PlayStation Network that covers many countries around the globe. We are committed to providing PS3 users with exciting gaming experiences with PlayStation Home and together with our partners and users, expand the new world of interactive entertainment as we move forward.

If I was going to be pedantic, I would have to point out this is only an Open Beta launch, not the full release of PlayStation Home. However, as I’ve already theorised, it seems unlikely such a thing will ever actually happen, but rather that Sony will, at some point, decide Home isn’t a beta any more and remove that part of the branding – or, as seems to work for Google, simply leave Home in a permanent state of beta.

The question now, then, is: does anyone really care about home any more, anyway?
