Photoshop’s getting a load of improvements to mark its 30th birthday
It’s been 30 years since Photoshop first hit our screens. Adobe is ringing in three decades of the popular photo editor by releasing a handful of new updates.
The new features will be introduced across the desktop and iPad versions of Photoshop to mark the big milestone.

Improvements have been made to Content-Aware Fill, a tool which allows users to fill part of an image with content sampled from another part of the image, making it great for getting rid of big mistakes quickly and seamlessly.
With the new update, users can now make more than one selection and apply more than one filter to their image without moving out of the workspace. You can try this feature out by clicking the word ‘Apply’ to preview fills before selecting ‘OK’ to commit to them.
Adobe has made improvements to Lens Blur too. Lens Blur is now GPU-driven, lending itself to more realistic effects. The sharpness and edges in the foreground should blur more accurately, while the highlights will see more colourful bokeh effects.
The added performance improvements promise to make the platform feel smoother and more responsive too, especially when it comes to navigating larger documents.
Photoshop for iPad will be getting its own improvements, on top of those listed above. These include popular desktop features, such as Type Settings and Object Selection.
With the new Type Settings, iPad users will get a number of typographic controls usually reserved for desktop users. These include type layer, character and options properties and can be used for tracking, leading, scaling and formatting all caps (though iPad users will need to wait a little longer to get kerning tools).

Tablet users will also get to take advantage of the Object Selection feature that shipped out on the desktop version just three months ago. The tool uses Sensei AI and machine learning to make selections quickly and easily by snapping the lasso tool into place around an object.
Photoshop for iPad users can also look forward to a major update when it comes to cloud capacity, with the aim being to improve download and upload speeds by up to 90%.
