Philips DesignLine TV unveiled

Philips has unveiled its unconventionally crafted Philips DesignLine TV, made from one sheet of glass for the ultimate seamless finish.

The Philips DesignLine TV will be offered in two screen sizes both fitted with Philips Ambilight LEDs to heighten the floating screen effect for the Smart TV.

“By consciously designing a system which offers implicit performance, but in a language focused on interior context we offer a true Object of Desire,” said TP Vision’s Senior Creative Director, Rod White.

Philips DesignLine Features

Made from one seamless sheet of glass, the Philips DesignLine TV aims to be the Smart TV to compliment even the most contemporary homes. The gradient black effect running down the glass panel starts at opaque black turning transparent by the floor, which should turn invisible when watching TV. Created to create the impression of a floating display, the effect is furthered by three sides of Philips Ambilight XL technology, which fits LEDs behind the TV to project colour onto the walls behind. These colours change with the content currently showed on the screen.

Leaning against the wall, the solid glass sheet of the Philips DesignLine TV is also designed to conceal the screen when in standby mode, potentially turning the TV set into a piece of contemporary artwork.

Aside from the design, the Philips DesignLine offers a Full 1,920 x 1080p HD resolution, as well as being 3D capable. Using 3D Max active shutter glasses technology, the TV can offer 2D to 3D conversion, 3D depth adjustment for 3D personalisation and the option to play dual-screen multiplayer in full-screen resolutions.

Powered by an unknown, supposedly “high-performance”, dual-core processor, the Philips DesignLine TV is equipped with a Perfect Pixel HD engine with 1400Hz Perfect Motion Rate to ensure motion sharpness. Local contrast and Micro Dimming also help to improve the contrast and quality of the on-screen image.

With full Smart TV functionality, the Philips DesignLine is in-built with Wi-Fi connectivity for catch-up TV, internet browsing and access to the Philips Smart TV stores’ content.

The Philips DesignLine offers four HDMI and three USB ports for wired connectivity, and can be controlled using the Philips Remote with keyboard and pointer. Users can also download the Philips MyRemote app from the Apple App Store or for Android from Google Play. The app offers a remote control for the Philips DesignLine, screen sharing from tablets and smartphones, Wi-Fi Smart Screen and access to the Electronic Programme Guide from the smart device.

Philips DesignLine Release Date and Price
The Philips DesignLine TV release date has been set for sometime in June. Available in two screen sizes, the 46-inch version will be priced at £2000, whilst the 55-inch option will sport a £2800 price tag.
