Phil Harrison, SCE Worldwide Studios President, Resigns

But why?

Phil Harrison is a name anyone vaguely familiar with the PlayStation brand should know. Harrison originally joined Sony way back in 1992 as part of Sony Electronics Publishing, which later became Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, prior to the launch of the original PlayStation console. Some 15 years later and he’s moving on, having today announced his pending departure from the company, effective of the 29th of this month.

Harrison’s current position as SCE Worldwide Studios President is to be taken up by Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of SCEI after the former’s departure. Hirai had the following to say:

As one of the founding members of SCE, Phil played a key role in the development and growth of the PlayStation business and our industry. It is sad to see him departing from SCE, but I wish to express my gratitude for his many invaluable contributions and also wish Phil the very best of luck in his future endeavors.

Harrison himself commenting:

The past 15 years at Sony Computer Entertainment has been the defining journey of my life so far. I am grateful to all the PlayStation family for their incredible support, guidance and friendship. It has been a privilege to serve as part of the team and be inspired by them on a daily basis. I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can.”

Curiously, no mention is made of the reasons of why Harrison is leaving Sony, nor has any mention been made of what he is moving on to. Rumour, though, has it that he is to take a place at Atari – we shall have to wait and see.

”’Update:”’ I suspect this has something to do with it (Gordon).
