Periscope, the live-streaming video app owned by Twitter, has just released a big new update.
The update now lets users view streams in landscape orientation, a first for the app.
Previously, all streams were limited to portrait orientation only, which isn’t always ideal for every streaming situation.
“As much as we’re fans of portrait video, we know that there are times where the scene you’re trying to capture is best expressed in landscape,” reads a Periscope blog post.
It continues: “
We should note that you could technically view videos in landscape before, although it wasn’t actually an official feature. As such, you’d just be watching the video sideways.
Now you’ll get the full field of view from landscape shooting whatever way you hold your phone.

Landscape broadcasts weren’t the only new addition to Periscope in the new update, mind.
For instance, there’s now an indicator beneath the title of a broadcast to explain who’s shared a stream with you.
There are also a number of new accessibility features that should make it easier for visually impaired Periscopers to use the iOS app.
Additionally, when you begin a private broadcast, you can now choose from a list of mutual followers – note: only in the Android version.
Periscope’s creators say this list process is a “more natural selection” of people who you’re likely to broadcast to.
There’s also a ‘select all’ option for quickly selecting all of your mutual followers. That’s so you can share a stream with all of your friends, but not the whole world.
