‘People want more screens’ says Samsung

With the second screen format coming into its own as smartphone and tablet adoption increases, Samsung has suggested that the multi-screen era will continue to expand as “people want more screens.”

Speaking during its CES 2013 press conference, Samsung has claimed that consumer demand is driving the rise of expansive screen toting portable devices with the increase in smartphone screen sizes and availability of varying tablet offers due to the public’s insatiable demand for more screens.

“People want more screens to access their content,” President of Samsung Electronics, Boo Keun Yoon said, speaking at CES 2013. “That is why we have made tablets at different sizes,” Yoon added.

Continuing claims that the varying collection of screen sizes is thanks to the continually evolving consumer demands, Yoon went on to claim that through introducing the S-Pen stylus and the smartphone-turn-tablet hybrid that is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Samsung  has also created a new screen size sector, the Phablet market.

Suggesting that the increase in accessible and portable screen numbers will help create a more user friendly and immersive environment for consumers, Yoon added: “People want their connections, between devices and between each other, to be simpler.”

Yoon’s comments have been echoed by fellow Samsung executives, with Tim Baxter, President of Samsung Electronics America adding simply: “One screen isn’t enough anymore.”

Expanding on his points regarding the emergence of multi-screen environments, Baxter went on to state that more screens are needed as “mobile devices are becoming the central hub for people’s business and personal lives.”

Whilst the rise in screen figures is one thing, Samsung has also suggested that users are increasingly interested in touch sensitive displays as intuitive user interfaces and operating systems, such as Windows 8 create a more touch orientated world.

Hot on the touchscreen revolution, Samsung has moved to a largely touchscreen base for many of its modern releases with Michael Abary, a Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics America stating that “more than half of the Samsung PC range is now touch.”
