People are already queuing up for the iPhone 6

Apple’s forthcoming smartphone revamp, the iPhone 6, won’t be announced for another five days, but that hasn’t stopped a group of dedicated fans from setting up camp outside the flagship Apple store.

The above picture was taken outside the New York Apple Store by CNBC. It shows four happy campers waiting out for the supposed (okay, nailed-on) launch of the iPhone 6.

The two to the right are Brian Ceballo and Joseph Cruz. They’ve been in the queue since Sunday in a bid to break the 18-day record for waiting for an iPhone.

Ceballo and Cruz actually sold their place at the very front of the queue to Jason and Moon Ray, the other two in the picture, for $1,250 a piece.

If you think all four are doing this in the name of fandom, however, you’d be mistaken. Or at least, you wouldn’t be entirely right.

Ceballo and Cruz are being sponsored by a second hand phone company – hence the bright blue t-shirts – which means that all of the duo’s food for the estimated 20 days in which they’ll be queuing up will be paid for, as well as their iPhone 6 handsets themselves.

The Rays, meanwhile, are flogging a forthcoming iPhone health app.

All in all, it’s pretty easy money or advertising – provided you don’t mind waiting on a breezy New York street for upwards of two weeks.

Apple is expected to launch two iPhone 6 handsets and a new range of wearable devices, known informally as iWatch, at a September 9 event in California.
