Pebble Time Round is the world’s thinnest and lightest smartwatch

Smartwatch pioneer Pebble has announced the Pebble Time Round, the firm’s first timepiece with a circular face.

The new Pebble Time Round is being billed as the world’s thinnest and lightest smartwatch at 7.5mm thin and weighing in at 28g.

Pebble says it’ll last two days on a single charge, while it’ll only need charging for 15 minutes to make it through an entire day.

The Pebble Time Round will go on sale in late 2015 for the cost of £229/$249 and will be available to pre-ordered at Pebble.com.

The price point is more expensive than the square faced Pebble Time, which retails for £179/$199, but in line with the upscale Pebble Time Steel model.

There’s two band sizes (14mm and 20mm), while it’ll be available in three finishes; black, silver or rose gold. There’ll also be a selection of bands that wearers can switch out in a matter of seconds.

Judging by the images and video released by Pebble, the new “watch first” Time Round appears to have an unfathomably large bezel, which seems sure to split opinion among consumers.

The fifth smartwatch in Pebble’s line up also features the always-on, colour e-paper display and is compatible with iOS and Android smartphones.

“Pebble Time Round looks different from anything we’ve ever made before and is the perfect addition to our growing product lineup,” said Eric Migicovsky, CEO and co-founder of Pebble.

It’s the first smartwatch that looks like a classic wristwatch and furthers our mission to create useful technology that blends into your everyday life, not the other way around. We recognize that wearable technology can’t be one-size-fits-all and are fiercely committed to offering unique choices that suit individual style and expression.”

This is the first product released by the company that hasn’t been funded by Kickstarter backers.
