PC and PS4 cross-platform multiplayer has potential, says Eve Valkyrie dev

CCP Games’ Andrew Willans believes that PC and PS4 cross-platform multiplayer has potential.

With the announcement of Eve: Valkyrie being a launch title for the Oculus Rift, but also the PlayStation VR (formerly known as Project Morpheus), questions started coming in about multiplayer potential.

There’s currently cross-platform multiplayer support for certain titles across Windows 10 and Xbox One, but what about PS4 and PC for VR titles.

It would certainly be a handy feature in the early days of VR, to keep the servers nice and full.

Speaking to TrustedReviews, CCP Games’ Lead Game Designer Andrew Willans said there’s no reason why that couldn’t happen.

“Theoretically you can do cross-platform. You know, console vs PC. There’s no reason why you can’t”, said Willans. “You need to look at the balance, and whether one has an advantage over another.”

“That’s something that we’ll look at later down the line. For the minute we are very much PC and PlayStation as separate platforms.”

And for Eve: Valkyrie it seemingly wouldn’t be that difficult, as Willans explains that “it’s excatly the same game” across both platforms.

Willans also chatted about the benefits of being one of the earliest adopters of VR, seeing as Eve: Valkyrie has been around since the Oculus Rift DK1 days.

It’s given us time to polish and refine. There have been
very few happy accidents, everything you see has been arrived at by a lot of
talented people having an opinion and iterating and refining and polishing to
make sure its as awesome as it can be.”

“It hasn’t been a burden really that the date has shifted.
It’s exciting. We’ll be ready for launch and we’ll be awesome at launch. We’re
in a very privileged position to be this happy with what we’ve got.”
