Panasonic Viera smart TVs to come with Freesat Freetime

Panasonic has announced a partnership with Freesat that will see new Viera smart TVs come with Freesat Freetime.

The Freesat service will be available in selected new models Viera smart TVs and take advantage of the Freetime service as well.

Freesat Freetime lets you roll back your TV Guide for the past week, offering access to the major on-demand services like BBC iPlayer, 4oD and Demand 5.

“We’ve had a long standing relationship with Freesat and I’m really excited that we are the first manufacturer to have the Freetime service on our TVs,” said Craig Cunningham, Panasonic’s TV Product Manager. “Research tells us that when it comes to smart TVs consumers want three things: the best content available, ease of us and flexibility.”

Freesat was originally launched in September 2012, and Freetime is now on 40 per cent of all Freesat set-top boxes.

“We are delighted that Panasonic has chosen the award-winning Freetime service for its 2014 Viera TV range and placed it at the heart of free-to-air TV in the UK,” said Emma Scott, Freesat MD. “For such an important global brand as Panasonic to choose Freesat’s Freetime is proof of the clear consumer benefits of our service.”

Daily recommendations are also offered with Freetime’s Showcase function and you can download the Freesat app for iOS to give you more control over your Freetime service.

The Panasonic and Freesat agreement marks the first free-to-air connected TV service across satellite and terrestrial broadcasting.
