Panasonic Lumix TZ55 superzoom compact revealed
The Panasonic Lumix TZ55 has been revealed as a slightly more accessible option than the higher-end TZ60 superzoom compact, selling for £229.
The Panasonic Lumix TZ55 is a compact superzoom camera that Panasonic’s Vic Solomon labelled as “the one the mum would choose” in a family camera decision, out of the new 2014 Lumix range.
Other than its accessible price, the Lumiz TZ55 offers a flip-able rear display, allowing for much easier selfies than with the otherwise more impressive Lumix TZ60. It’s a 3-inch screen with resolution of 460k dots – a mid-range display. Like the TZ60 screen, it’s a non-touch surface.

Panasonic Lumix TZ55 Features
The Lumix TZ55 has a 20x optical zoom and a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor. Its lens offers a minimum aperture range of f/3.3-6.4 across the focal length. Optical image stabilisation is incorporated to make using the zoom without a tripod easier. The Lumix TZ55 can shoot video at 1080p resolution, and captures footage in MP4 format.
Any camera that has to fit in a 20x optical zoom isn’t going to be tiny, but at 32.4mm thick and 250g, The Lumix TZ55 will fit easily into a coat pocket. The camera comes in three finishes, including a rather fetching red option. The other are the more standard black and white finishes too.
Other than the lesser zoom range, the lower screen resolution and the lower-resolution sensor, things you miss that do feature in the more expensive TZ60 include NFC, an EVF and stereo mics (the TZ55 has a mono mic). The camera still offers Wi-Fi, 10fps speed shooting and 15 creative filters that work across stills, panorama and video. There’s also an easy four-frame burst mode, which is an easy way to counteract having pics of people with their eyes closed.
The Panasonic Lumix TZ55 will go on sale for around £229 later this year.
