Panasonic Eluga Launching In Europe This Spring

Panasonic is set to enter the smartphone market in Europe with the waterproof and dustproof Eluga Android smartphone which will go on sale this spring.

According to Panasonic, the name Eluga stems from the phrase ‘elegant user-oriented gateway’ which is a little odd, but we’re willing to go with it. Despite it’s tough credentials, the phone weighs just 103g and measures just 7.8mm thick.

The Eluga will have a 4.3in OLED qHD screen with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels which takes up 66 per cent of the phones’ body and represents one of the largest largest screen ratios on the market according to Panasonic. The phone will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor from Texas Instruments, will have 8GB of storage, an 8 megapixel camera, will support an NFC chip and will run Android 2.3.5 with an update to Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) promised by the summer.

The phone will also play nicely with your Panasonic TV thanks to swipe and share. You will be able to push photos and videos directly from your phone to your Viera TV and you’ll even be able to share websites through your TV using the Smart Viera app. The VieraRemote app also enables the phone to be used as a remote control for
other electronic devices in the home (such as a TV, Blu-ray player, home cinema system, or digital still camera).

Panasonic has said the phone will launch in Europe this spring but has not annoucned a more definite date or any pricing for the Eluga.
