Overwatch has a free weekend coming up at the end of July

Blizzard Entertainment has announced a free (long) weekend coming for Overwatch, which will start on July 26 at 7pm BST and run through until July 31 at 8am BST.

That means you’ve got three whole days to try out one of the most popular multiplayer shooters around − completely free. You can download the game by grabbing the free app from Blizzard’s official site.

All of your progress will carry over to the full game if you’re a new player. This will include your level and all associated cosmetic upgrades for heroes.

Overwatch is a fantastic shooter that has matured a lot over its two years on the market. Most recently, we’ve seen an all-new hero announced for the shooter, Hammond the Hamster, but Blizzard has also been regularly balancing the game’s characters, and has announced that defensive character Torbjörn is soon to receive some upgrades to make him more viable as an offensive hero.

To be honest it’s in the news so much that it may seem a little intimidating to prospective new players, but at its core it’s a fantastically balanced class-based shooter in the same vein as Team Fortress 2.

Its lovable characters and incredibly deep gameplay mechanics have helped craft a shooter that’s hard to pass up. You can find a snippet of our 9/10 review below:

“If, like me, you’ve recently fallen out of love with online first-person shooters, play Overwatch long enough for it to deliver one of its many standout moments and you’ll be renewing your vows in no time.”

There’s also a vast eSports community that’s developed around the game, that now exists in the form of various leagues and tournaments worldwide.
