Ouya Everywhere to debut on Mad Catz Mojo Android mini-console
Ouya has announced that Ouya Everywhere will debut on the Mad Catz Mojo Android mini-console.
The Mad Catz Mojo console will be the first to bring the Ouya software outside of the console and will be available later this spring.
Ouya Everywhere will make all Ouya’s existing game content available on the Mojo micro-console.
“Up until now, the game console experience has been locked inside a box,” said Julie Uhrman, CEO and founder of OUYA. “Together with the hardware veterans at Mad Catz, we end that. Today’s announcement signifies the inception of a truly open platform where independent developers can bring their creations to the platform where gamers actually play: everywhere.”
Currently, the Ouya catalogue includes 680 Android games, with over 33,000 developers signed up.
“This agreement with Ouya encapsulates our vision of an open software platform powered by Mojo’s high performance hardware, and support by the entire ecosystem of GameSmart gaming accessories,” said Darren Richardson, President and CEO of Mad Catz.
In conjunction with the Ouya Everywhere announcement, the Mad Catz Mojo is getting a price cut.
It will now retail for $199.99 in the US, with that reduction reflected in all other major territories as well. In the UK, the Mojo console is £220, so expect to see it retail for around the £180 mark soon.
Ouya Everywhere is about “bringing our software to other people’s devices by embedding it in those devices. We’ve always wanted to be an open platform. It started with a hardware product for us. We will always have an Ouya reference design… but in addition to just being a reference device we believe our ecosystem can live on other devices.”
