Fixed line service finally set to catch up with rivals.
It’s pretty much a given these days that telcos will have both fixed and mobile broadband offerings (after all their future is as dumb pipes) but it’s important to keep them up to scratch…
Finally getting its act together this month then is Orange – arguably the slowest to cotton onto both mediums – which has announced 20Mbit trials are now underway for its fixed broadband service.
No date was put on how long Orange will be running the trial or in what stages the offering will be rolled out nationwide to its customers. That said, the big news here is Orange will offer the boosted service to subscribers for exactly the same price as its 8Mbit deal and existing 8Mbit users will be upgraded for free.
“This trial is an important step in enabling us to offer up to 20 Meg home broadband to consumers across our network,” Orange director of Broadband Asif Aziz. “It is also testament to our ongoing commitment to evolve our fixed broadband service and ensure we offer customers a truly reliable user experience.”
We appreciate the sentiment Asif, but it’s also called ‘playing catch up’.
Expect to hear more from Orange on this soon, while hopefully its mobile broadband will receive similar love and attention.
