Oppo can now charge a phone from 0 to 100% in 15 minutes

Now that all the big new smartphones have been announced, other companies are showing off their latest innovations at MWC 2016.

Perhaps one of the coolest is Oppo’s new Super VOOC charging technology, which the company claims will charge a phone from 0 to 100% in 15 minutes.

That’s an impressive claim from the Chinese manufacturer, especially considering Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology can only manage 0 to 80% in 35 minutes.

Oppo says it has developed a new algorithm which will keep the phone’s temperature low when charging.

Super VOOC works over both microUSB and USB Type-C connections, and requires a cable, adapter, and connecter made from military-grade materials.

There are a few caveats to Super VOOC however.

It currently only works with 2,500mAh batteries and will only be available on Oppo phones.

The company plans to introduce the technology in the near future, although exact dates are yet to be revealed.

Oppo showed Super VOOC off at a special event at MWC, and claims that the ‘low voltage pulse charge system’ is entirely safe.

Time will tell whether the tech makes it onto non-Oppo smartphones, but it’s certainly impressive stuff and bodes well for the future of quick-charge tech.
