OnePlus unveils ‘On-Guard’ smartphone insurance plan for Europe

A key point of different between top-tier western companies like Apple and Chinese start-ups like OnePlus is after-sales care.
But OnePlus is now looking to bridge that gap by introducing a new insurance program for its customers in Europe.
The scheme hopes to address a key question – and persistent pain point – for OnePlus owners: what happens if something goes wrong with my phone?
The answer is On-Guard, a paid-for warranty program that protects your OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X, should anything go wrong.
“We don’t want to just introduce new products, but are always exploring how to improve the overall user experience,” explains OnePlus. “Our commitment and drive go beyond selling a device.”
It continues: “Backing that up with stronger customer care is a core goal at OnePlus, and now we’re taking the next step.”
So what do you get? According to OnePlus, On-Guard, which is provided through a partnership with simplesurance, offers:
- Accidental damage and liquid damage coverage
- Worry-free claim process
- Worldwide coverage for claims
Pricing is set at €39.99 for 12 months’ coverage, and €64.99 for 24 months’ coverage.
The service is available starting on November 2, although you’ll have to wait for the OnePlus X to actually go on sale on November 5 before you can cover it.

It’s worth noting that customers in India will have an alternative service called B2X OnePlus Service2 and Protect2.
Unfortunately, customers in the United States and Canada haven’t been catered for just yet.
However, OnePlus confirms that it is “partnering with another esteemed brand with experience in smartphone insurance” to cover the North American market.
