OnePlus X Ceramic: Just 10,000 units available globally
The new OnePlus X may come in two variants, but not all smartphones are created equal.
It turns out that there will be just 10,000 units of the pricier OnePlus X Ceramic available globally.
That means you’ll have to act fast to bag yourself a handset, especially as the Ceramic models are still subject to the OnePlus invite system.
What’s more, you’ll need a dedicated Ceramic invite to purchase that version of the phone – generic invites won’t work.
It’s also worth noting that while the glass OnePlus X Onyx costs £199, the Ceramic will set you back a heftier £269.
So what’s all the fuss about with the OnePlus X Ceramic?
It all comes down to the laborious manufacturing process used to create the device.
The process starts with a zirconia mould that’s just 0.5mm thick, which is used to shape the ceramic.
The ceramic itself is fire-baked at temperatures up to 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit for over 28 hours, before cooling for two days.
Every OnePlus X Ceramic backplate then undergoes three “meticulous” methods of polishing before they’re ready to ship to consumers.
The OnePlus X Ceramic is also scratch-resistant, with a hardness of 8.5H on the Mohs scale.
OnePlus describes the device as a “feat of engineering and design”, and it’s certainly the most attractive handset from the company to date.
