OnePlus admits USB-C cable could ‘result in damage’, offers full refund
If you’ve bought a USB-C cable from OnePlus, you could be in line for a refund.
OnePlus has admitted a fault in the design of its low-priced USB Type C cables.
Issues with the cable were first brought to light earlier this month after a Google engineer warned users not to buy it.
OnePlus has now accepted that there’s a problem with the cable, and is offering users a full refund.
“The issue is that the cable and adapter are designed for a maximum of 2 amps of power, but the resistor will allow fast-charging devices to try to draw more power than a power source may allow,” a OnePlus spokesperson tells TrustedReviews.
He continues: “
It’s worth noting that because the OnePlus 2 doesn’t offer fast-charging, it’s fine to use with the OnePlus USB-C cable.
However, other devices – like the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P – “may cause damage to your charger, hub, or PC USB port”.

OnePlus says that if you’ve purchased the USB-C cable to use with a device other than the OnePlus 2, you can apply for a refund.
As such, any cables that were included in the box with a OnePlus 2 aren’t eligible for the refund, since they’re safe to use with the phone.
If you’re based in North America or Europe, you can fill out the form at this link, and you’ll be refunded directly through PayPal.
For customers in China or India, you’ll have to take the cable to your nearest OnePlus repair centre, where you’ll be refunded upon the item’s return.
