OnePlus Two leaks reveal fingerprint scanner and Oppo-style design

New details surrounding the OnePlus 2 have leaked, suggesting the upcoming handset might boast a fingerprint scanner.

The OnePlus Two will land as OnePlus’ second-ever smartphone, with the market-disrupting OnePlus One having been on sale for nearly a year now.

According to a report from GizmoChina, the company will embed a ‘laser-focus fingerprint identification’ onto the device’s home button.

The OnePlus One didn’t have a fingerprint scanner, although the technology is much more prominent in the smartphone industry now.

The leak also revealed that the OnePlus Two would look similar to last year’s Oppo Find 7, which was widely praised for its sleek design.

That’s also not a huge design departure from the current OnePlus One, which was also well-received in terms of design.

The final titbit of information from the leak was that the OnePlus Two will carry capacitive Android 5.0 buttons on the sides, although there were no further details on what this would actually entail.

OnePlus’ next smartphone is expected to launch in Q3 this year, and the company has confirmed that they will still try to keep retail costs down with the new device.

The OnePlus one caused a stir in the smartphone industry when the firm stuffed it full of high-end components and sold it at production cost.

The OnePlus Two is poised to be similarly budget-friendly, although there is some talk of it being slightly more expensive than the One, largely because it will carry more premium components.

OnePlus has also previously confirmed that the device will once again avoid incorporating a microSD slot or removable battery.

The company recently held an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, and seemingly ruled out a MediaTek chip for the new device, and it’s still not clear whether OnePlus will make use of the complaint-drawing Snapdragon 810 chip.

There is no definitive release date currently set for the OnePlus Two.
