A shipment of OnePlus One smartphones bound for Europe has been turned back due to an incorrect font on the rear of the handsets.
The OnePlus One has had its fair share of problems getting out of the prototype stage an into customers’ hands. Just last week it emerged that a serious software flaw needed to be addressed before the too good to be true smartphone could ship.
This latest delay is almost comically minor by comparison, but no less disruptive.
As reported by Android World, an email has been sent out to European customers explaining why the already-late OnePlus One will be delayed by another two weeks.
Apparently, it’s all down to the legislative text that’s printed on the back of the phone (and every phone, for that matter).
You know the little ‘CE’ symbol on the back of your smartphone? It seems this has been written in the wrong font on the OnePlus One.
“The issue stems from our vision for the design of the OnePlus One,” explains the email. “For the back cover, we wanted the regulatory icons and text to be in harmony with each other and appear be as minimalistic as possible. In order to achieve this, we modified the CE icon to match the other icons.”
Of course, we know that EU customs is a sucker for detail, so the outcome was perhaps predictable: “This was deemed unacceptable and our shipment was returned.”
To say sorry for the two week delay, OnePlus is handing out complimentary covers and screen protectors to affected customers “when they become available later this month.”
Easy on the release date predictions, people. Let’s get the typography right first.
