OnePlus Nord to have ‘flagship camera’ with OIS confirmed
Smartphone fans eyeing the affordable OnePlus Nord phone won’t have to sacrifice too much in the way of camera quality to save a few bucks, according to the company’s co-founder.
While sharing a tweet from the young whippersnapper of the Twitter leak community Ishan Agarwal, Carl Pei wrote: “Flagship camera incoming.”
The tweet he referenced predicted optical image stabilisation for the OnePlus Nord, a feature that’s more common on higher-end flagship phones (via 9to5Google).
Agarwal wrote: “#OnePlusNord’s camera system will feature Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). I would like if more and more midrange phones get this feature. It’s useful for people with shaky hands (like me) and night photography. #nord #oneplus #NewBeginnings.”
While the experience on a sub-£400 handset is unlikely to match up to the cameras on the flagship OnePlus 8 series of smartphones, it certainly illustrates OnePlus believes the Nord’s camera system is worth shouting about.

As well as soliciting new information from a OnePlus executive, Agarwal also might have the scoop regarding the OnePlus Nord release date (via XDA Developers). He spotted an Amazon India page for the phone citing a July 21 release for the eagerly-anticipated device. The page in question has now been changed, suggesting the mistake was spotted, or contained misinformation. Agarwal has now removed his post too.
OnePlus has already announced the phone is coming, but it is yet to reveal when it will go on sale in India and Europe. A launch in the US is set to follow in the weeks thereafter. Previous reports had stated the device was set to launch on July 10.
The launch of the OnePlus Nord will mark a return to its beginnings for OnePlus, pushing an affordable handset while now offering true flagships for those who enjoy the company’s experience and ethos while seeking top-end specs and features.
