It’s good news for OnePlus 6 owners today as the Android P Beta 2 Developer Preview has been released for the cult handset, bringing with it a host of new features.
The latest version of Google’s 2018 mobile OS brings Google Lens camera integration, facial recognition technology, and an easier ‘notch’ hiding option to the OnePlus 6.
It’s one of a select few handsets to be able to run the pre-release software, joining the likes of the Google Pixel, Pixel 2, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 XL and Sony Xperia XZ2 in the VIP lounge.
However, as it’s still a very early beta, it’s not for everyone.
The Android P Beta 2 Developer Preview is really only meant for – you guessed it – developers, and you can expect it to be plenty buggy. The purpose of it is to help devs update their programs to work with Google’s new version of Android, so that when the final build is released to the public, all of your apps don’t suddenly stop working.

Install Android P on the OnePlus 6 in eight simple steps
As we’ve said, installing the Android P Beta 2 Developer Preview isn’t for everyone. If you’re in the 90-plus percent of smartphone users who simply want their Android phone to work as it should, experimenting with pre-release software probably isn’t for you.
However, if you’re a keen tinkerer or simply have a second device that can afford to be borked, then the steps below will get you up and running with the Android P Beta 2 Developer Preview.
- Download the ROM here
- Back up all your files, even if using a secondary device
- Copy the ROM to your device
- Flash it using TWRP or similar software
- Reboot your device into recovery mode
- Select ‘Wipe data and cache’
- Now hit ‘Erase everything’ and accept
- Restart your device normally
